All
right, we got through number 8 without a disaster, this is no time to relax
though. This first shot is the toughest drive on the whole course,
because you have O.B. right and water left. Most of you see water
left and immediately hold on to the swing and miss right. In this
case, out of bounds is a stroke AND a distance penalty, whereas the water
is only a stroke. So, should you aim left? Absolutely not.
What we do need to do is keep the ball down the right center and take the
club that will leave you about 170 yards to the green. The O.B. right
starts to drift; get closer to the fairway, the closer you get to the 150
marker. If you take the club that leaves you 170 yards, it gives
you another 10-15 yards to miss your shot right and still be OK.
So, we hit a three wood in the right rough, that's not bad. First
of all. We can hit it again. Second, we have a good angle into the
middle of the green and not much water to contend with. This second
shot plays long. Take at least one more club, because if you think
about it, how many times have you seen somebody chip from behind the green.
Now pick a target in the middle of the green and hit it there. If
you have taken an extra club, the bunker is out of play. If the pin
is towards the right side of the green, we cannot miss, right because it
is a tough up and down.  So take the extra club and play towards the left
center of the green. Good Shot! Line up your putt again, then
concentrate on distance. Bam! We were due for a snake. Good
Birdie and a round of 38.
