At
296 yards, the twelfth hole at PCCC is the shortest par 4 on the course.
Pars and birdies are very conceivable, if you are able to keep the ball
in play. However, with a narrow fairway, an undulating green, grass
moguls and bunkers, compounded by five different hazards that come into
play, this hole is anything but routine. So don't lose focus here
or you can make a big number in a hurry.
Big hitters have a chance to drive the green here but at a great
risk. The prudent thing to do is to leave the driver in the bag.
We want to hit enough club to carry the creek but stay short of the water
hazard on the left of the green. It is much more important to have
a good level of lie in the fairway at 130 yards out, than to be hitting
off the side of a hill lie from 80 yards out with the ball above or below
your feet.
When sizing up your approach shot, take careful notice of where
the pin is. You'll be hitting the two-tier green that is anything
but tolerant to loose shots. If your ball ends up long left, you
are in a grass bunker. If it goes long right, you are on a grass
mogul. Going short left puts you in the water, and short right puts
you in the sand. If your approach shot does happen to land on the
green, but on the wrong tier, you'll do well to two-putt.
Hopefully, you escaped the jaws of bogey or double bogey and
are on your way to #13 without incident.
