In
my opinion, this is the crucial hole on the golf course if you want
to shoot a low score. Up to this point, we have been able to scrape the
ball around and keep our score down. This shot requires execution,
but luckily we have had seven holes to warm up. Obviously you need
to do whatever it takes not to miss left. Pick out a target on the very
right side of the green, and choose the club that will get you to just
short of the middle of the green. This hole is difficult because there
is not a good place to miss it. Go long, and you are in the bunker;
go short or left, and you are in the water. This leaves us one place to
miss it: short right, but even there you have to negotiate the mound
on the front right of the green. However, we can make four from here
instead of five or six from the other spots. So, we miss our shot short
and right--not a great shot--but we avoided disaster. DO NOT try
and make a miracle shot from here, just play it out to the right and
hope to make your par putt. You lipped out and made bogey, but we
are only three over going into number nine--smart play.
